Post Base Plates
How to choose post base plates
Sub-type
Decide between Hardware for solid base plates and Hardware Accessories for smaller fittings.
Material
Material drives the tradeoff: stainless steel and metal last long but add weight, plastic and nylon stay light.
Colour
Colour choice is practical: black, grey, silver suit neutral setups, red, blue, green, yellow help spot parts.
Mixed materials
Mixed builds like steel/rubber or plastic/metal give specific traits, such as grip or reduced weight.
What's good
- Hardware Accessories in stainless steel resist rust when used outdoors.
- Plastic and nylon options keep fittings light for small post bases.
- Aluminium and silver finishes give a neat appearance on visible mounts.
- Steel or metal plates hold heavy loads without bending.
Things to watch
- Steel and metal parts weigh more than plastic equivalents.
- Rubber and steel/rubber mixes can harden or crack in strong sunlight.
- Bright colours like red or gold show marks faster than black or grey.
- Mixed plastic/metal items may loosen if the two materials shift.
Care & maintenance
Light cleaning
Dust plastic and nylon pieces with a soft brush.
Metal care
Wipe stainless steel and aluminium with a dry cloth after wet weather.
Rubber check
Inspect rubber or steel/rubber parts each season for cracks.
Colour care
Keep coloured finishes away from abrasive cleaners to preserve the shade.
