A dehumidifier for drying clothes removes moisture from the surrounding air while water evaporates from the washing. Choose around the room where you actually dry laundry, rather than a headline litres-per-day figure alone.

Compressor or desiccant for laundry?
Measure the temperature where the machine will work. Compressor dehumidifiers generally suit warmer rooms; desiccant dehumidifiers deserve consideration in colder spaces. Meaco's technology guidance explains that compressor extraction falls as temperature and humidity fall.
Avoid a universal temperature cut-off: capacity and exact design matter. Check the chosen model's published extraction table at conditions resembling your room. A machine being able to operate at a low temperature does not mean it will collect the same water there as in a warm test room.
A desiccant unit's higher input wattage alone does not establish its cost for the completed task. The amount of water removed and time taken also matter. Do not assume that the DD8L, DD8L Zambezi and DD8L Pro share controls, consumption or accessories.
What does a 10L or 25L rating mean?
The number describes water extraction under specified test conditions, rather than the water-tank volume or a guaranteed result in your laundry room. For example, Meaco's Arete One 10L table lists 4.34 litres per day at 20°C and 60% relative humidity, versus 10.42 litres at 30°C and 80%.
Compare models at the same temperature and humidity. A 25L-labelled machine is a different-capacity purchase from a 10L model; neither label tells you how long your towels will take to dry. Tank access and drainage arrangements are separate buying checks.
Set up the drying space
Meaco's laundry guidance recommends spacing garments so air can move between them and directing airflow across the rack. Crowded clothes restrict circulation; a fan is an additional appliance choice, not a required bundle item.
The Arete One 10L/12L manual advises keeping doors and windows closed for a laundry session, placing the machine near the washing without allowing drips onto it, and using Smart Laundry Mode. Follow the clearance and room requirements in your own model's manual; do not cover the inlet or outlet with clothes.
The same manual describes a six-hour laundry programme, with the compressor cycling under its control logic. That is a programme duration, not a promise that every load will be dry. Fabric thickness, remaining water, temperature and airflow change the result, as Meaco's help centre explains.
Calculate running cost without guessing a tariff
Use watts ÷ 1,000 × hours × electricity price per kWh. An illustrative appliance drawing a constant 150W for six hours uses 0.9kWh. At an explicitly illustrative 25p/kWh, that costs 22.5p; 30 identical sessions would cost £6.75.
These are worked arithmetic examples, not measured Meaco laundry consumption, a current tariff quotation or an estimated cost per dried load. At 300W for the same six hours and tariff, the calculation is 45p, but that does not prove either machine finishes the same washing in six hours.
Use your own tariff and, where available, measured energy for a complete drying session. Include any separate fan or heating energy. Meaco's running-cost guidance distinguishes compressor and desiccant consumption; its quoted tariffs are assumptions, not your personal electricity price.
Compare complete machines
Our catalogue check on 1 November 2026 confirmed Meaco's own in-stock offers for these Arete One 10L and 25L machines. The cards are restricted to the checked manufacturer retailer. They illustrate different capacities, not a ranked recommendation or a claim that either suits every laundry room.
Before buying, compare the delivered total, condition, returns and drainage accessories. If choosing between generations, read our Meaco Arete One versus Two guide; it separates controls from capacity differences. Browse the Meaco dehumidifier collection for other matched machines.
Frequently asked questions
Does laundry mode guarantee dry clothes in six hours?
No. A timed programme describes its controls. Heavier fabrics or a colder, crowded room can require a different drying time. Check the clothes rather than treating the timer as a dryness sensor.
Should I compare the cheapest hourly running cost?
Compare the energy needed for your task as well as the hourly input. A lower-power appliance that takes longer is not automatically cheaper for the finished load. Replace illustrative tariffs with your own electricity rate.
Is a purifier-only mode suitable for drying laundry?
The Arete One manual says air-purification mode does not dehumidify. Use the model's specified moisture-removal or laundry setting. For the distinction between appliance types, read air purifier versus dehumidifier.
